R-410A Diagnostic Tool (Legacy–2030)
Free public calculator for field techs — no account required. Enter readings, run a diagnostic, and download a PDF to this device. Multi-refrigerant tools and cloud My Logs remain in the Members Area or HVAC Lens app.
How to run a diagnostic
- Work through the stepper (Prev / Next) or jump with the section dropdown.
- You can run with a complete gauge set, and/or viable coil airflow inputs, and/or viable duct inputs — you do not always need every field.
- When enough data is present, Run Diagnostic enables. It calculates results and moves you to the output steps.
- Use Recalculate after changing inputs on an output step.
Setup
- ASHRAE climate zone — ambient context for air/oil status messaging.
- System tons (optional) — enables mass-flow style estimates later.
- Discharge line temp (°F) (optional, ≈ 6 in. from compressor outlet) — required for estimated oil temperature on the Air and oil step.
Gauge readings
- Enter suction and liquid pressures (PSIG by default).
- Toggle between line temperatures and direct SH / SC entry.
- Complete gauge data unlocks full refrigerant metrics (SH, SC, sat temps, NRE context, etc.).
Coil airflow
- Evaporator and condenser can use Air or Water modes independently.
- Fill one viable group (for example Return DB + Evap TD) when running without full gauges.
Duct measurements
- Sensible heat, traverse pressure, or area × velocity paths can estimate CFM.
- If multiple CFM paths disagree by more than about 20%, the tool flags the conflict — correct inputs before trusting results.
Output steps
- Key Metrics — high-level status and core numbers.
- Refrigerant — SH, SC, saturation temps, related readings.
- Duct Airflow Results, Air and oil, Enthalpy, Vapor & Performance — as data allows.
- Partial runs may show placeholders where a path was not completed.
- After a successful diagnostic, open the Download PDF step.
- Enter a report title (job, site, or customer) — used as PDF header and filename.
- Tap Download PDF to save the report on this device.
- This free tool does not upload to My Logs. Cloud logs require a members account (where available).
PT Chart
- After data loads, use PT Chart in the stepper for a quick R-410A pressure–temperature overlay.
